The question often asked by prospective clients is “Do I need to be on social media?” The answer is that you need to have a presence where your clients and prospects are. That does not mean on
every social media platform, but the ones that are relevant to your clients.
The internet is essentially a large number of communities where the majority of your clients and prospects spend some time on a daily or weekly basis. You don’t need to have a marketing strategy
for the whole internet – just where your clients are. The objective is to find where your clients, prospects and referral sources are. For example, I spend a lot of time on Linkedin and Twitter
because these are great ways for me to network and find clients. With my coaching clients who have consumer products the focus is on Facebook and Pinterest.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking social media is all about some B grade celebrity talking about what they had for breakfast. It is also more than Search Engine Optimisation and some email
promising to get you on the front page of Google.
It is about networking, finding prospects, communicating with existing clients, publishing your expertise, demonstrating your competence, building databases and making sales.
